Fertilia

Fertila is a little hamlet situated few kilometres far from Alghero. It was founded in 1936, during the reclamation of the Nurra plain. At first a colony founded by people from Ferrara, Fertilia became an agricultural town, but now its economy is mostly based on the activity of the little port, recently renewed, and on the camping grounds in the surroundings.

Cultural Itineraries and Excursions.

The town is structured in typical Fascist style, with its centre gathered around the parish of Saint Mark and its square, and the Lictorian Tower. The church of Saint Mark, made of trachytic rocks, was built in 1939, and it houses one of the most interesting modern mosaics in Sardinia: Biasi's Cristo Risorto e Angeli (Risen Christ and Angels); even the bell tower, that reminds, in its shape, that of Saint Mark's Cathedral, in Venice, is quite remarkable. On the road that leads to Alghero, nearby Calich pond, you can see the ruins of an ancient Roman bridge, restored in the Middle Age, and later damaged again.

Beaches

Immediately after Fertilia, on the road that leads to Capo Caccia, there is Punta Negra Beach, followed, after 2 kilometres, by the two beautiful and frequented beaches of Le Bombarde, young people's favourite beach, and where you can find all services, and Il Lazzaretto, overlooked by a big coastal tower. Along the road to Alghero there is the long seashore of Maria Pia that links Fertilia to the Catalan town.
